For over a decade, The Arts Prophetically Speaking (TAPS) has utilized a high level of Broadway & Hollywood talent to produce full length plays, illustrations, musical pieces, and comedies.
Since 1995 God has used TAPS to win over 3,000 souls to Christ through live drama. In 1997 Pastor Trey Fernald was hired to help build In His Presence Church through performance art. He was appointed head of TAPS in March of ’97. TAPS began with a select “hand full” of artists, but has grown to over 60 people that perform throughout the year. Through effective discipleship, many TAPS members have become IHP Church leaders, pastors, staff members, and missionaries.
In 2007, the core members of The Arts Prophetically Speaking launched a Los Angeles based theatre company called Eastern Sky. Eastern Sky Theatre Company’s main focus is to communicate the gospel throughout Los Angeles County in entertaining, contemporary, creative ways.
Along with building In His Presence Church, TAPS members have traveled throughout the world to spread the good news. Members of TAPS have journeyed to India, South Korea, Thailand, The Philippines, Eastern Europe, Australia, Mexico, and Canada to perform, teach, and minister. TAPS leaders have also had the privilege of training mission teams to perform overseas. Thousands of lost souls from Fiji and Thailand have given their life to Christ after teams, trained by TAPS leaders, presented the gospel to them.
What Makes TAPS So Different From Other Church Drama Teams?
90% of all TAPS scripts are written “in house” by sketch-writers. TAPS writers have created a successful literary formula that has proven effective for evangelism and discipleship, while maintaining high entertainment value.
TAPS members consist of people with a professional background in dance, singing, acting, and production. Their experience in the entertainment industry has been used to effectively propagate the gospel and build In His Presence Church. Team members such as Emmy Award winning editor and long time film maker Marlon Jones, actress and Lions Gate film producer Caia Feifer, professional choreographers Pastor Tymme & Aury Reitz, and 168 Film Festival winners Jim & Kathy Choiniere are just a few of the team members that keep the bar raised when it comes to live drama at IHPC.
TAPS members have been featured on TBN, the 700 Club (ABC Family), Today Magazine, and Charisma Magazine for their innovative work in ministry.
What’s Next?
Through Eastern Sky Theatre Company, TAPS members are working to own and operate their own Los Angeles based theatre space in the future. For information on upcoming Eastern Sky shows or general information, visit easternskytheatre.org.
Through the TAPS Dance Ministry, members are working to own and operate their own dance studio where classes can be taught throughout the week and rehearsal space is offered for upcoming productions.
